Scope and Contents

Mainly comprising letters from writers and politicians including Winston Churchill, J. M. Barrie, Sir John Betjeman, Graham Greene, Somerset Maugham, Lord Halifax and Gerald Campbell. The majority of the correspondence is on literary topics. The collection also contains diaries of Cecil Roberts and his commonplace book from 1959-61 which are a source of information on contemporary society. In addition, there are numerous press cuttings and book reviews spanning Cecil Roberts' career.

Scope and Contents The material held at Churchill Archives Centre comprises Professor Steiner’s personal papers. They include papers of his wife Dr Zara Steiner and his children David and Deborah Steiner. They are predominantly in English with some French. They consist of correspondence with Professor Steiner’s parents Dr Frederick Steiner and Mrs Else Steiner, other correspondence, memorabilia and scrapbooks. Scope and Contents The collection includes personal papers, pocket diaries, photographs, literary material and personal correspondence. There is only a small amount of material relating to HMB's early life and unfortunately a great many papers and correspondence were destroyed in a German bombing raid on London during the Second World War. The bulk of this collection is Stead's letters from his many correspondents including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, William Gladstone, and Christabel Pankhurst. There are also papers relating to his time in prison, and to his many publications. Material related to interviews with Royal and political figures and notes for work are also included.
